I. Ruth Smith

July 27, 1929 – May 29, 2026
Obituary of I. Ruth Smith
IN THE CARE OF

D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Pine Valley

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I. Ruth Smith, 96, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on May 29, 2026. She was born on July 27, 1929, in Plymouth, Pennsylvania.
Ruth was the daughter of the late Carl and Ada (nee' Swingle) Smith. She graduated from Waymart High School, Class of 1946, in Pennsylvania—an early milestone in a life marked by steady purpose, thoughtful care for others, and a quiet strength that inspired those who knew her.
For many years, Ruth served as secretary of the public schools in Pennsylvania, a role well suited to her devoted nature and generous spirit. She retired in the 1980's. Ruth was a member of Pine Hill Church for many years, and her faithful commitment was reflected not only in where she worshipped, but in how she lived—anchored in conviction, guided by kindness, and attentive to the needs of those around her.
Ruth, as she was fondly known, loved sewing, reading and studying the Bible. Her love for these simple and meaningful pursuits spoke to a life of constancy and reflection. Above all, she found deep joy in taking care and loving her family, giving of herself in ways both seen and quietly enduring.
She leaves to cherish many precious memories and to continue her legacy of love and caring to her daughter, Pamela (Greg) Kephart; son, Leonard ( Ralphael) DiBacco, Jr.; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Rodd) Closson, and Dominique (Andrew) Jones; three great-grandchildren, Logan and Dakota Closson and Samantha Jones; a niece, Carol Laborde; and other relatives.
Ruth was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jessica Kephart and siblings, Carl Smith and Jean Swink.
A Celebration of Ruth's Life will be held at a later date.
