James Matthew "Jim" Doty

James Matthew “Jim” Doty, 61, of Fort Wayne passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Parkview Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born on November 2, 1962, in Tampa, Florida, to the late Robert F. and Barbara (Harris) Doty. On August 14, 2008, he married Holly McKanna, who survives. After moving to the Fort Wayne area, Jim began working as a telecommunications engineer for INdigital Telecom, where he worked for over 25 years. Jim was a hardworking man of faith with a passion for adventure. A true Florida boy, he enjoyed competitive two-man beach volleyball, waterskiing, surfing, and Frisbee. He loved nothing more than playing with his children, and their annual family vacations to St. Pete Beach and the Smokey Mountains were filled with swimming, jet skiing, white water rafting, tubing, and ziplining. Jim also loved spending time at home, working out and watching shows with his family and going on long bike rides with his children. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a good listener, often offering words of wisdom and encouragement. As a friend of Bill Wilson, Jim was an ardent supporter of the Serenity House in Auburn and spent many hours mentoring young men. He adored his wife and children and will be deeply missed. Jim is survived by his wife, Holly McKanna; two children, Alana and Stefen Doty, both of Fort Wayne; a sister, Janice Doty Word (Thomas Callaway) of California; and a brother, John Harris (J.B.) Doty of Florida. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46808 with visitation two hours prior to the service.
