Jerald E. Miller, 88, of Fort Wayne passed away on February 1, 2020, in Panama City Beach, FL. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on December 13, 1931, where he lived for 13 years. IN 1944 his family moved to Bluffton, Indiana. He graduated from Bluffton High School in 1950. After 1 year at Ball State he joined the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA aboard the submarine U.S.S. Tigrone SSR 419 during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956. In July of 1950 he began dating Ann Markley, also a Bluffton High School student. In 1954, on December 19th they were married. During their married life they had three wonderful children; Jeff, Linda and Greg. They recently celebrated their 65th anniversary. After his service in the Navy he went back to Ball State receiving a B.S. degree in education in 1958. He received a M.A. in education in 1964. He then taught Math and Physics at North Side High School form 1958 to 1966, Culver Military Academy from 1966 to 1969 and Snider High School from 1969 to 1992. During this time he taught part time at St. Francis College and IVY Tech. During his time at Snider High School he started the baseball program in 1971 where he coached for 13 years. In his leisure time he enjoyed watching his children, grand-children and great grandchildren participate in extra curricular activities. He loved to play golf, fish and watch Snider events. He was a member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 111 in Bluffton and the United States Submarine Veteran INC. He is survived by his wife, Ann Miller; children, Jeffrey Miller, Gregory (Sue) Miller, and Linda (Doug) Johnston; grandchildren, Jeremy (Kristen) Mickelini,Travis (Katelyn) Heston, Angie Papenbrock, Jacob Miller and Hannah Miller; great-grandchildren, Mason, Gabriella and Elena Mickelini, Tinsley Heston, and Ava and Tyler Papenbrock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerald Everett and Ruth Miller and sister, Jean Wasson. Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, February 10, 2020 at D.O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46815 with calling one hour prior. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 pm on Sunday, February 9, 2020 also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Children International, or the Fort Wayne Honor Flight.
