Jerry Lee Boyer of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at age 65 after a brief but brave fight against lung cancer.
Jerry is preceded in death by his mother, Rose Marie Boyer. Jerry is survived by his father, Jack (Beverly) Boyer of Columbia City, Indiana, and two sisters, Janell (Ted) Nettles of Charleston, South Carolina, and Julie (Mark) Haver of Iron Station, North Carolina
Jerry was born September 10, 1958 in Bluffton, Indiana. He grew up in rural Huntington County on the family farm and moved to Fort Wayne as a young boy.
His strong work ethic began as a teenager working at Mike’s Car Wash throughout high school. He graduated with the Class of 1976 from R. Nelson Snider High School. Some of his strongest bonds were his high school buddies who knew him affectionately as “Spud”. These friendships lasted his lifetime.
Jerry’s pride and joy were the two Harley Davidson motorcycles that he owned. Every spoke, nut and bolt shined! He took great care of everything he owned. Early on, he purchased his home in Fort Wayne where he remained until 2024. His neighbors always appreciated his finely manicured lawn. He remained good friends with his neighbors over the years and they cherished him for his good nature and sweet disposition.
He settled into adulthood and worked as a Weld Operator at Autokiniton in Auburn, Indiana for nearly 30 years. He retired in late 2022.
In his final years, he was able to travel more and enjoyed visits with his sisters. He moved to Charleston, SC in 2024 to stay with family.
The family would like to thank Roper St. Francis Hospital and Agape Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Jerry in his final days.
Jerry’s kindness and gentle spirit were his persona. He is loved and missed by his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life is being planned at a later date in Fort Wayne, Indiana. His ashes will be interned at Highland Park Cemetery at the Praying Hands niche. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
