

On Nov. 29, 1922, Jewel was born at Grantsburg, Crawford County, Indiana to Ernest and Corda Marie (Wiseman) Batman. Jewel shared her childhood with two brothers and one sister in Southern Indiana area of English.
On Oct. 17, 1942 she married Harvey Howe in English and they were together for 68 years before his passing Apr. 9, 2011. Harvey was a minister in Nazarene Churches for 68 years with Jewel at his side. Coming to Fort Wayne in 1970 to minister at the West Main Church of the Nazarene. To this union they had six children Carolyn, David, Larry, Donald, Steve and Janet.
Jewel was a devoted pastor’s wife, member of The First Church of the Nazarene, and homemaker. Known as Mother, Grandma, Grandma Great, Sister, Aunt Jewel and to many as Mrs. Howe she has left special memories with each and every person that she had in her life. Family members all will cherish the handmade quilts and crocheted doilies that she made over the years.
Survivors include daughters Carolyn Clinger, Rochester, and Janet Howe, Ft. Wayne, sons David Howe, Rochester, Larry Howe, Donald (Jane) Howe and Steve (Melissa) Howe all of Ft. Wayne. Fifteen grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Brother Ernest Batman, Frankfort and sister Velma Snider, Tenn., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by sister Thelma Ruth Batman, brother Howard Wayne Batman, sister-in-laws Ada Batman and Leanna Batman, brother-in-law John Snider, son-in-law George Clinger and daughter-in-law June Enyart Howe. Funeral service will be private. It will be live streamed on the funeral home Facebook page at 1:00 pm on Friday, December 18, 2020. Public visitation from 11am to 1pm on Friday, December 18, 2020 at D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home.
