JILL ELAINE STOKES, 77, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at her home. Born July 6, 1943, in Frankfort, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Hugh J. Jennings and Elizabeth Jennings. Not only was Jill a faithful and beloved member of Zion Lutheran Church, she also worked as the Secretary at Zion Lutheran School for 24 years before retiring in 1999. Jill's hobbies and pleasures included building puzzles, painting, sewing, eating at restaurants, playing video games, which she became known to the grandkids as "Nintendo Granny", traveling, singing to her favorite music including doo wop, soul and jazz, and, "Girls Night Out" on every first Monday with her high school girlfriends. She is survived by her husband, Clarence A. Stokes; three children, Randy D. Stokes, Gary B. (Susie) Stokes of Johns Creek, Ga., and Carmen L. (Lamar) Stokes-Williamson of Merrillville, Ind.; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; two stepsisters, Sharon "Cheet" (Robert) Strong of Angola, Ind., and Marcia (Jim) Stevens of Bunell, Fla.; two first cousins, Ann Beers-Sevick of Greenville, S.C., and John Beers; and three nephews, Jackie (Estie) Jennings of Honolulu, Hawaii, Jeff Jennings of Bunell, Fla., and Jerry Bill (Robin) Jennings of Palm Coast, Fla. Jill was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Eve Barto; uncle, Bill Barto; brother, Jack Jennings; stepfather, Mose Vaughn; and two stepbrothers, Jim Vaughn and Larry Vaughn. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church, 2313 Hanna St., Fort Wayne, with visitation one hour prior. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery.
