Joan, as she was known, graduated from South Side High School in 1949. In 1950 Evelyn Hines, a coworker at Lincoln National Bank, introduced her to her brother, Harold R. “Johnny” Hines, who became the love of her life. Joan and Johnny married in 1952. For many years she worked as bookkeeper for Visiting Nurse Service in Fort Wayne. She lived at Cree Lake near Kendallville for over 20 years where she cherished her friends and South Milford Church. Joan enjoyed spending time at the lake. She was very fond of Kris Kristofferson, Andy Williams, Patsy Cline and Frank Sinatra's music. Joan was very loving and outgoing and easy to talk to. She enjoyed going to the casino, shopping at Shipshewana, bus tours and Chicago shopping.
Her husband, Harold R. Hines, Jr., preceded her in death in 1990, her son-in-law Michael Robinson in 2021, and her beloved canine Pomeranian KoKo.
