John K. Merchant

John K. Merchant was born March 21, 1950 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late John E. and Mary Jane (Sullivan) Merchant and passed away on January 8, 2020 in Glendale, Arizona. John graduated from Bishop Luers High School in 1968. He played Little League and Pony League baseball. He also played basketball and ran track for Bishop Luers. He won third place in the Indiana High School High Jump Championship, earning a track scholarship to Purdue for high jump. He also made the Purdue freshman basketball team as a walk on. John transferred to IU and earned a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy. He lived in the Phoenix area for the last 15 years. John is survived by his brothers, Steve (Lisa) Merchant of Indianapolis and Tom (Sheryl) Merchant of Fort Wayne, and three nephews. Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 2 PM with calling from 11 AM until the time of service at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E.
