

JUDITH ANNE ALATZA, 88, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, surrounded by family, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home. Born Nov. 19, 1925, in Anderson, Ind., she was the daughter of Ray Corwin "Jimmy," and Mary Eleanor Nooney. Judy was a 1943 graduate of Anderson High School and then from Ball State University, in Muncie, with a degree in dietetics. Her internship was served at the IU Medical Center, Indianapolis, Ind. She was a registered dietitian at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, Long Hospital, Indianapolis, and briefly at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. After her marriage in 1950 to George E. Alatza of Anderson, Ind., she lived in New Orleans, La. and practiced at the Touro Hospital in that city. In 1953, the family moved to Indianapolis, and then on to Fort Wayne where she resided for 58 years. Judith and George were active members of Trinity Episcopal Church, Fort Wayne, where she served on the St. Barbara Ladies Guild. Her genuine desire to help people in need, led her to the Homebound Meals program (based at the Trinity Episcopal Church), which she managed for 27 years. Judy was simply and innately, classic. She could often be found working in her flower garden or baking her famous oatmeal cookies. "She had a warm caring and affectionate nature. Her welcoming smile put anyone at ease. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her." Surviving are her husband of 64 years, George; brother, John Nooney of Kittery, Maine; children, Marianne (Paul) Zukoski of Olympia, Wash., Mikel (Christina) Alatza of Los Angeles, Calif., Jayne (Jack) Moyer of Fort Collins, Colo., Andrew (Hannah) Alatza of Westfield, Ind.; grandchildren, Sarah (Wesley) Wood, Julie (Brandon) Meadows, Lauren (Randall) Gruber, Abigail (Michael) Sharp and Anne (Alex) Garcia, Nicholas and Noah Alatza; great-grandchildren, Ellie and Kiptyn Sharp, Lex and Leelou Meadows, and Olivia Garcia; sister-in-law, Evalyn Wiley; nieces, Jill Nooney-Munger of Lee, N.H., Jackie Nooney of Kittery, Maine, Christine Kolodniki of Princeton, Maine, Carol Alberts of Warsaw, Ind. and Linda Helman of Indianapolis, Ind.; nephews, Stephen Veach of Armonk, N.Y., Stephen Gregory of Atlanta, Ga., Victor Paris of Richmond, Va., Eric Paris of Atlanta, Ga., Rex Alatza of Anderson, Ind. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jessie (Stanley) Veach formerly of Vienna, Ill.; and brother, Edward (Barbara) Nooney formerly of Nashua, N.H. Memorial service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at Trinity Episcopal Church 611 W. Berry St., with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Memorials to Trinity's Friends of Music, which has provided a cherished musical element to Trinity's services.
