Julia Irene Kirk, 96, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Coventry Meadows in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born February 28, 1926, in Muncie, Indiana, the daughter of the late Noal and Opal Whitacre. Over the years, Julia worked at the Holiday Inn of Muncie, Richard’s Restaurant, Kirk’s Bicycle Shop and was housemother at Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at Ball State University. She was an avid painter, using both oils and acrylics. She was well known for painting holiday themes on store windows for many years in the Muncie area. She, along with her sister, Judith, was a member and officer of the International Twins Association for decades. She is survived by her sons, David (Michael Greene) Kirk, Devon (Nancee Lougheed) Kirk, both of Fort Wayne, IN; Dace (Cherie) Kirk of Florida; grandchildren, Brannen (Kori) Kirk, of Huntington, IN; DaVonna (Brett) Kollin, of Zanesville, IN; step-grandson, Matt (Daynee) Vorst; great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Adalee, Breanna and Kamilla Kirk, Parker, Carter Kollin, Isabel and Alex Vorst. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Judith Stillwagon-Barnum. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road Fort Wayne, with visitation beginning at 2:00 pm, until time of service. With a private ceremony, she will be laid to rest in Twin Hill Cemetery, Pennville, Indiana. Memorial donations in her honor may be directed to Humane Fort Wayne (formerly Allen Co SPCA).
