KAREN MARIE (JOHNSON) LAKE was called peacefully from this life on Thursday, January 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Born April 24, 1956, in Muncie, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Richard C. and F. Joan Johnson.
Karen was united in marriage to Phil Lake, whom she lovingly referred to as “my husband and best friend.” She devoted more than 45 years of faithful service to Fort Wayne Wire Die, where she formed lifelong friendships and met her husband. Known for her quiet generosity, Karen gave freely of herself to others in ways both seen and unseen. A devoted member of St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church, she volunteered faithfully, including providing meals for the homeless. Throughout her life, she faced challenges with quiet strength, steadfast hope, and an unshakable trust in God.
Karen found joy in gardening, listening to country music while cooking, and traveling to visit her children and grandchildren.
Affectionately known as “Gramsie” by her granddaughters, she cherished frequent visits to New Orleans, where she made special memories with Lena and Meryl.
She is survived by her husband, Phil Lake, and her children, Amanda Buhr (Jerry Evans) of New Orleans, La.; Haley Buhr (Adam Jeanfreau) of New Orleans, La., and their children, Lena and Meryl Jeanfreau; and Mitchell Buhr (Katy) of Newport, Tenn., and their daughter, Marigold Buhr. Karen loved being part of a large family and is survived by her nine siblings, Mel (Sandy) Johnson, Thom (Susan) Johnson, Richard (Elaine) Johnson, Cathay (Scott) McLeish, Carole Bills, Mary Johnson (Ed Garr), Joan Hippenhammer, Judi (Brad) Holsinger, and Darcey (Mark) McNeal.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2026, at St. Mary of the Assumption, 414 Madison St., Decatur, Indiana, with calling one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, January 23, 2026, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, Indiana.
