Kim A. Detwiler, 68, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Parkview Randallia. Born November 26, 1951 in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Marjorie Ruth (Powell) Detwiler and Ivan F. Detwiler, who survives and resides in Fort Wayne. A graduate of Concordia High School, Kim studied Performing Arts at Purdue University Fort Wayne. He started his performing arts career at the Purdue Indiana (PIT) Theatre in the early 70’s. Throughout his career he won multiple awards. In 1976, he performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and was the recipient of the John F. Kennedy Award of Excellence in a Major Role. He later became involved with the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre where he was the recipient of the 1987-88 Fort Wayne Civic Theatre Anthony Award for his “Outstanding Performance in a Major Role as Mozart” in Amadeus. In addition, he won three awards at the Fort Wayne Arena Dinner Theatre including the 2010-11 “Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role of a Play”, 2013-14 “Best Supporting Actor In a Play”, and the 2014-2015 “Best Performance By An Actor in a Supporting Role of a Play”. In the summer months, he would perform at the Black Hills PlayHouse in Sioux Falls, SD. Kim was an avid reader and avid Colt’s fan. He is survived by his sister, Kerry (Mark) Ruoff of Angola, Ind.; brothers, Kevin (Cindy Coronada) Detwiler of South Bend, Ind., and Mark (Suzanne) Detwiler of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; niece, Hannah Ruoff of Angola, Ind.; aunt & uncle, Sandra & Bob Berning of Bryan, Ohio; and two additional nieces and one additional nephew.
