Lloyd Dale Smith, 97 of Fort Wayne, Indiana went home to be with the Lord on September 4, 2023. Born on December 4,1925 in Allen County, he was one of five children born to Archie and Eva Smith. He graduated from Jefferson Center High School in 1943. He entered military service with the United States Air Force in 1944 and is a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Air Force 27th Bomb Squadron-30th Bombardment Group and served as an Airplane Armorer Ball Turret Gunner on the B-24. After leaving military service he was employed by the Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne until his retirement. Dale Smith is survived by his children Steven (Sara) Hewes, Tamra (Carl) Sovine, Gayle Noble, Tom (Rebecca) Smith, Terry Smith and Tim (Sonya) Smith along with seventeen grandchildren and thirty-four great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years Edith Smith, his parents Archie and Eva Smith, his brother Earl Smith, sisters Dorothy Waldrop, Mildred Crandal and Phyllis Egolf. He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Edith and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Even at the age of 90 he walked the 2015 Masters tournament in Augusta, Georgia. He was humble man who led his family with dignity. He showed us what it is like to love unconditionally and was always there to support his wife and family. We can only aspire to be the type of person he was and he will be deeply missed. If you had the pleasure of knowing him, you would know what a great loss this was. Funeral service will be 10 am Monday, September 11, 2023, at D.O. McCombs and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, Ft Wayne, IN. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Burial will follow the service in the Greenlawn Memorial Park on Covington Road.
