Lois Jean (Stults) Keller, 90, of Defiance, Ohio and a former longtime resident of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2023, at CHP Hospice Center in Defiance. She was born on a farm in Decatur, Indiana on January 14, 1933, to Francis William Dayton Stults and Florence Sarah Wilhelmina (Kuhn) Stults. She and her family moved to Fort Wayne where she spent her formative years graduating from South Side High School in 1951. While attending college (Saint Francis College) she met her future husband, Herbert, working during the summer at Essex Wire. They were married in 1954 and she soon left the workforce transitioning to being a mother and homemaker.
Approximately 10 years later while raising her three sons she began babysitting for others in her home for additional income. After the boys all reached school age, she embarked on a career in the insurance industry working for several firms (Brotherhood Mutual, Loos Insurance and Insurance and Risk Management) in the Fort Wayne area.
Her plans for retirement were disrupted in 1996 by the sudden death of her beloved husband, Herb. This loss resulted in a major turn in her life journey by presenting the opportunity to move a few years later to Defiance, Ohio to assist in the care for the children of her youngest son (Ken) while also permitting her part-time return to the insurance industry which also enjoyed greatly.
Lois is survived by her sons, James (Judy) Keller (Cincinnati), Kraig (Peggy) Keller (Fort Wayne) and Kenneth Keller (Lake James, Angola); seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and half-sister, Donna L. Geary.
Following a private family graveside ceremony, she will be interred at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 6600 Covington Road, Fort Wayne.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to CHP Home and Inpatient Hospice (Defiance, Ohio).
