Lyle David Miller, our strong husband, father, and grandfather entered The Gates of Heaven on Monday, September 16, 2024.
Lyle was born on August 29, 1940 in Waterloo, Indiana. During adolescence, he played baseball for the Waterloo High School. In 1960, Lyle married Carolyn Dunn. In 1961, they had their first son, Kris, and moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana for work. In 1963, they had their second son, Brian. During this time, Lyle worked for Magnavox for several years and then received an opportunity with Indiana Michigan Electric Company (later known as AEP) where he worked as a meter reader for the first few years. In 1972, Lyle was promoted to a lineman; a job he loved due to the responsibilities and the quality of men he worked with. He worked for AEP for over 30 years. In 1976, Lyle and Carolyn welcomed their daughter Kelli.
Lyle loved sports and was talented at all of them. However, his ultimate love was baseball. He coached Senior, Big, and Legion Ball leagues for several years. Many of his players loved his pitching during batting practice because he threw hard, and he threw strikes. Beyond his love for baseball, Lyle was an avid bowler and golfer. With hard work and dedication in golf, he even achieved a hole in one. Beyond the traditional avenues of sports, Lyle loved to dance. No one could match his moves on the dance floor. Throw on some Elvis and you were going to get a show! Lyle, loved his friends, many from work and his school days. They were never far from his mind. Bring up a name of any one of them, and he would immediately smile with joy.
Lyle cherished his family. Family meant everything to him. He loved the many relatives he was blessed with. Most importantly, he loved and missed his mother, Maxine, dearly, and he loved and respected his step-dad, Hal. He knew that without their guidance and love, life would have been much more difficult. He was extremely proud of his children, Kris, Brian, and Kelli, and their spouses. He missed Brian terribly and is now catching up for lost time. Nothing gave him more joy than his grandchildren. His face would always light up when they came to visit. He loved his wife of 64 years, Carolyn. The many trips all over the world gave them many memories. He knew how much she loved him and how he could always count on her. He knew how blessed he was to have such a wonderful wife.
Lyle’s life was a tremendous journey. It is a blessing to know that his journey continues today in Heaven. Lyle is survived by his wife Carolyn, his children Kris and Barbara Miller and Kelli and Rodney Barr; his four grandchildren Brian, Devin, Kiara, and Payton; and his great-granddaughter Milah. He is also survived by his step-father, Haldon Krauter; as well as step-sisters Becky Longyear and Bonnie Kimmel. Lyle is preceded in death by his son Brian Miller and his mother Maxine Krauter.
