Dr. Martineau (Mart) Thompson

Dr. Martineau (Mart) Thompson, 95, passed away Tuesday, March 29 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born May 26, 1926, in Poughkeepsie, Arkansas, son of the late Tolar and Goldie (Massey) Thompson.

Mart's family relocated to Anderson, IN, and he entered the Navy in 1944, at the age of 17. He served as a Coxswain in the South Pacific. After the war, he graduated from Lincoln Chiropractic College in Indianapolis and established a practice in Anderson. There he met his devoted wife of 64 years, Jessie, and was married in 1951. They later settled in Fort Wayne, IN, and raised 5 children. Mart excelled at basketball and pool, enjoyed Sunday drives, and jogging, but mostly just liked spending time with his family. He was a man of strong faith, with a very kind heart and excellent sense of humor.

He is survived by his children, John P. (Mary Ann) Thompson of Wheaton, IL, Timothy J. Thompson of Decatur, IN, Margaret Roseann (Wade) Lerum of Monroeville, IN; sisters, Barbara Huff, Mari Smith, and Trena Bowen; grandchildren, Christopher (Rachel) Thompson, Philip (Sarah) Thompson of Savanah, GA, Michael Thompson, and Mary Kate Thompson of Thornton, CO; and 3 great-grandchildren. Mart was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie M. (Estes) Thompson, 2015; sons, Martin M. Thompson, 1966, and Stephen D. Thompson, 2009; brothers, MacRay and John; sisters, Billie Lou Thompson, and Jacqueline Norris.

The Requiem Mass will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 4643 Gaywood Drive, Fort Wayne. There will be a visitation at the church one hour prior, beginning at 10 AM. The burial will be at Catholic Cemetery of Fort Wayne. Arrangements by D.O.
