I am so saddened by hearing the death of Melodie Beard. I really miss her alot! She was my manager at LabCorp up to the day she retired. She taught me many things about Microbiology that helped me to gain the skills and expertise that I have today. Even now when there is a question about certain procedures and operations we can look to the many SOPs that Melodie wrote to assure proper testing and patient results. She made the esoteric/reference microbiology department! She also always supported me and said I could do more and was ready to listen with a jar of candy and later after she retired with a sweet text message. I have the hope of seeing her again one day when all our dead loved ones will be resurrected back to life on paradise earth. John 5:28,29. 

What a great boss! Always open to suggestions, talking about processes and how to make things better. I have missed her since I moved away and mourn her loss.  Open, funny a great lady all around.

Melodie was a friend to all microbiologists. She shared her passion of Microbiology and volunteered her time, energy and knowledge through her professional organizations ASM, SCACM and SEACM. I am saddened by her passing but know she is an angel among us. Your memory warms my heart. 🙏🙏🙏 to your family.


Melodie was a customer of mine at LabCorp and I called on her at various times with different companies!  She was a great person with a wonderful personality; she was always so friendly!  I am so sorry to hear about her passing!  She will be missed in the Microbiology and Virology communities!  My prayers and condolences to her family!

Melodie was my supervisor and friend while she was still at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne before she went to Rush. I was so glad to be able to visit with her this past summer before she became ill. Condolences to all the family.

I’m so sorry to hear this. I worked with Melodie through the American Society for Microbiology before her retirement. She was always a pleasure to be around. After her retirement I loved to follow her on Facebook, where she shared the love and joy she shared with her family. 

Losing someone is like losing a part of yourself. You will miss them and who you were with them. Nothing will ever replace the life, good times and laughter that Melodie and I had together.  When you share a memory of the times you spent together you feel that part of you again. We will miss you. Rest In Peace Dear Melodie.

Melodie and I were born in the same hospital in Princeton in January 1952 one day apart. She on the 29 and I in the 30th. Our mothers em were in the same ward and we had the same last name. We grew up in the same church, went to the same grade school and high school , road the same school bus. I was looking forward to seeing her at our 51st class reunion this past August and was told she had to go into the hospital for an emergency . Weeks lasted was told she was very  ill and in a facility . RIP dear friend . Love you .

Melodie was my manager at LabCorp back in the mid-2000. She was a great leader and a fine friend. We will miss you.
