

Melodie retired from Rush - Presbyterian - St. Luke's in Chicago, Illinois and Labcorp in Burlington, North Carolina. Her professional life was dedicated to bringing current information to medical technologists working in the field of Clinical Microbiology. Melodie was effectual in various organizations for over 30 years bringing Continuing Education to technologists active in the field of Clinical Microbiology. Melodie was active in the SouthEastern Association of Clinical Microbiology, where she served the Board of Directors as Membership Chair as well as past President, multiple terms; the South-Central Association for Clinical Microbiology, and The International Committee on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy.
Melodie had a passion for reading, collecting Hallmark Ornaments, and watching sports; she was an intense sports fan and loved cheering on her Indiana Hoosiers, Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago White Sox, and Carolina Panthers. The time she spent away from work, she loved to travel, especially to tropical destinations with her favorite being Aruba. In retirement, Melodie most enjoyed watching her Grandson Drew play sports and raising her new puppy, Misty.
Melodie is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Teresa) Beard; and grandson, Andrew "Drew" Beard.
Memorial Contributions may be directed to SCACM - Melodie Beard Memorial Fund, 6725 W. Central Ave., Suite M309, Toledo, OH 43617 to honor her love of microbiology and commitment to Continuing Education for bench level technologists; this fund will provide complimentary registration fees to a Regional or State Clinical Microbiology meeting.
