Michael Wayne Black

Mike proudly served his country and was a Vietnam Army Veteran.

He spent several years in the fastener business before opening his own company, Maumee Industries, in 1979. Mike served as President of Maumee Industries, which he grew in to an extremely successful fastener company, for 20 years. He was known as an excellent leader and mentor, who cared for his employees and their families. Maumee Industries was taken to the New York Stock Exchange in 1999 and at this time Mike partially retired. He was involved in several other business ventures and also served as a consultant to many.

He was an extremely generous man, who would help anyone, no matter the need. He was intelligent and was continually called upon for advice regarding any number of topics. Mike cared deeply for his family (biological or not) and continually was concerned about their welfare and doing all he could to ensure they were cared for.

Mike was an avid University of Notre Dame follower, especially football. He was a benefactor to the university and established a scholarship for disabled students. He enjoyed fishing and was also an excellent marksman. Mike was also a gifted and talented artist.

He is survived by his daughters, Michelle Black and Melanie (Mark) Thelen; grandson, Benjamin Thelen; longtime significant other, Kathy West and her 2 sons, Joshua (Becky) West and their children, Reagan and Camden; Jared West and his girlfriend and children, Wesley, Sage, Everett; nephew, Brian Black; niece, Christine Black and extended family; and numerous in-laws.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Mary Black; sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Tom Irons; and brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Sherry Black.

Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Wednesday October 30, 2024, at D.O. McComb and Sons Funeral Homes - Pine Valley Park, with visitation 2 hours prior. Committal and Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery.
