Naomi Newhard

GLADYS N. NEWHARD, 95, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at Golden Years Homestead, Fort Wayne. Born in Marion County, Ky., Gladys was the daughter of the late William "Jessie" and Margaret Puryear. She was a nurse with the State School Systems for many years before retiring. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Monroe, Mich., where she sang in choir. Gladys had a beautiful voice and loved singing from her youth up to her passing. During her 30 years at Golden Years, she loved singing for others. In her youth, she enjoyed spending time at Lake James with her family. She loved her family and cherished the time spent with them. Surviving are her sons, Steven Newhard and Terry (Carol) Newhard, both of Fort Wayne; 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Orville, Morris, Chester, Roy, Orbie Puryear, and Lillian Klepper; granddaughter, Julie Benkenstein; and daughter-in-law, Malinda Newhard. Service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, with calling from 9 to 11 a.m. Chaplain Jim Platner officiating. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Golden Years Homestead or Heartland Hospice.
