Naomi Yake Siela Shilling, 89 of Pierceton, IN, passed away, Monday June 22, 2020, at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw, IN. Naomi was born January 27, 1931, in Adams County, the daughter of Lewis and Della Frauhiger Yake. She married Leo Siela, Jr. in 1951 and he passed away in 1966. Her second marriage was to Bruce Shilling in 1974. Naomi graduated from Lancaster High School in Wells County in 1949. She graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1966 as the top graduate of her class. After graduating, she supported herself and her three children (Deb, Dee, and Denny) by working as a registered nurse at the Caylor-Nickel Clinic Hospital. She also became the Northern Wells Community School System school nurse. In 1972, her son Denny died due to a dog attack. When Naomi married Bruce, she became the stepmother of Angie and Stephanie. During their marriage they lived in Ossian, North Webster, Pierceton and wintered in Sebring FL. Bruce and Naomi were well-known for Porky’s Chops their concession business. Naomi was a member, elder, and deacon of the Presbyterian Church. Naomi was also a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Post 253. Naomi enjoyed cooking, gardening, coloring, and entertaining. Surviving besides her husband Bruce of 45 years, are two daughters; Dr. Debra (Scott Biberstine) Siela of Bluffton and Deanna (John) Blair of North Webster; two step-daughters; Angie (Tom) Vachon of Markle, and Stephanie (Tim) Vachon of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren, Brittany (Bobbie) Stump of Warsaw, Weston Blair of North Webster, Dr. Bryce (Hannah) Biberstein of Grand Rapids, MI, Kennedy Vachon of Markle, Jason (Kristen) Vachon of Fort Wayne, and Amy (Heath Bryson) Vachon of South Carolina; 6 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Besides her first husband Leo and son Denny, Naomi was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; Ruth Henschen and Hazel Liechty; and two brothers; Evan and Noah Yake. Visitation will be Monday, June 29, 2020, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home in Fort Wayne. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 30 at 1 pm at the First Presbyterian Church 300 W. Wayne Street Fort Wayne with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Seating will be limited to 125 and will be strictly enforced. The service will also be Facebook Live Streamed at 1:00pm. Masks will be available and are required at the visitation and funeral service. A grave site service will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials are to the University St. Francis St. Joseph’s Hospital Nursing Scholarship Fund in Fort Wayne, IN.
