

Paul C Carr, 96, passed away on January 28, 2018. Born on November 27, 1921, he was a Fort Wayne native and graduated from South Side High School. He served in the Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force as a navigator on a B-17 aircraft during WWII. He was shot down on his 24th mission, landing in a potato field, unhurt. The resident farmer turned him in to authorities and he was taken prisoner at Stalag Luft I, the German prison camp, where he spent the next 18 months, until the war ended. He returned home to his wife Rosie (Bell) Carr and 16 month old daughter, Paula. He was preceded in death by Rose in 1976, and second wife Betty in 2008. He lovingly cared for each of them in their final days. Also, his youngest son Tim left this earth in 2009. Paul is survived by daughter, Paula Benya who lovingly cared for him at home, son John (Barb) Carr and daughter Christine (Brock) Bell, all of Fort Wayne. Also 11 grandchildren Amy Zielinski, Kari (Tony) Colby, Mike (Bridget) Hamm, Molly Hamm, Jodi (Keith) Skidmore, Jenni (Ted) Sawulski, John (Gabby) Carr, Austin Carr, Gary (Susan) Weimer, Jill (Larry) Coburn, Julie (Nick) Smith, and 14 great-grandchildren. Paul was full of knowledge, facts and figures and taught his family well. He was a lifelong devout Catholic and the family prayer warrior. He kept track of all family members, praying for health, well-being and safe travels. He will be greatly missed. Per his request there will be a private family burial at the Catholic Cemetery.
