With profound sadness and deep gratitude for a life well-lived, we share the passing of Raymond H. Lundberg, a beloved husband, son, brother and cherished friend. His remarkable life was filled with courage, adventure, and an enduring commitment to service and those he loved.
Born on March 18th, 1964 he was the third son of Margaret (née Thomas) and George Lundberg. Raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Ray embraced life with an enthusiasm that was evident from a young age. Growing up with his three brothers, Ray was part of a fearless and mischievous band of adventurers, whose escapades became the stuff of family legend. From their daring stunts to their hair-raising pranks, the brothers shared a bond forged in humor, loyalty, and a mutual love for pushing the boundaries. As the years passed, Ray became the keeper of their stories, recounting their wild tales with a twinkle in his eye and a laugh that could light up a room.
Ray answered the call to serve his country as a member of the United States Air Force, dedicating seven honorable years to protecting our freedoms. Following his military service, he continued his commitment to public safety as a respected officer of the Wichita City then Fort Wayne Police Department, serving his community with courage and compassion for an incredible 29 years retiring with the rank of Lieutenant. His unwavering dedication to protecting others defined his career and inspired all who knew him.
While serving with the Fort Wayne Police Department, Ray met Kelly Fulton, the woman who would become his partner in life for 24 unforgettable years. Their relationship, like all great loves, was not without its challenges, but their commitment to one another remained steadfast. Together, they built a life rooted in care, mutual support, and shared adventures. Through the ups and downs, their love endured, a testament to their resilience and deep connection. Their bond was a reminder that even in imperfection, true love finds strength and beauty.
Known for his adventurous spirit, Ray lived life to the fullest. He reveled in traveling to tropical destinations and taking cruises, finding joy in the beauty of the world. He was fearless in his pursuits, enjoying activities like bungee jumping, snowmobiling, ATV riding, snorkeling, and motorcycling. His love for adventure was matched only by his love for music, which was the soundtrack to his incredible journey through life. His ability to find humor in every situation endeared him to all who knew him. A natural storyteller, he had the rare gift of turning even the most ordinary moments into epic tales.
Ray had a special place in his heart for his rescue dogs and cats, who filled his home with unconditional love and loyalty. Their companionship brought him immeasurable happiness. Over the years he was a fierce advocate for animals in need. He also found joy in his unique hobby as a pinball machine collector, traveling across the Midwest to buy, sell, and connect with others who shared his passion.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, his mother, and two brothers, Michael and Steven. He also leaves behind a host of friends who will forever cherish his stories, his laughter, and his boundless spirit. He was preceded in death by his father, George, and older brother, William "Bill".
Above all, Ray was a protector, not just by profession but by nature. He dedicated his life to ensuring the safety and well-being of others, embodying the very best qualities of a true public servant. His legacy of service and love will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Though our hearts ache with his loss, we take comfort in knowing that Ray's spirit lives on in the lives he touched. He leaves behind a world made better by his presence and family and friends who will carry his memory with pride and love.
