Richard Dean Smith, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed peacefully on June 1, 2021 at Lutheran Hospital. He was born in Clinton, Missouri February 1, 1940. He married his high school sweetheart Francis Arlene Smith on June 1, 1958. Together they raised their children while pursuing their careers in the dog business. Richard was the chairman of the AKC in Northeast Indiana for many years. He also served time in the Marine Corp. He is survived by his wife, Francis; children, Gary Douglas Smith, Mark Lynn Smith, and Beth Charlene Buckler; and grandchildren are Casey, Leah, Justin, Amanda, Jason, Taylor, Kylie. A service will be held Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 1PM with calling from 12:00PM until time of service at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road. Memorial donations may be made to Wounded Warriors Project.
