

Richard "Dick" Tagtmeyer, 84, passed away at home on April 12, 2026. He was born on May 14, 1941, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, son of the late Leonard and Helen (Crosby) Tagtmeyer. Dick was a 1959 South Side High School graduate. He was a dedicated member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Southwest Conservation Club, and a past president of the Civil War Round Table. Dick was a Civil War reenactor and Cannon Gunner with the 11th Indiana Light Artillery. He worked at General Electric, Coors Wire Dye, Phelps Dodge, International Wire and Foster Park Golf Course. Dick is survived by his wife of 60 wonderful years, Mary Ann (Heller) Tagtmeyer; children, April Fink and Wesley (Karen) Tagtmeyer; grandchildren, Adam (Gale) Fink, Sabrina Fink, Caleb (Caroline) Schannep, Eric (Jami) Schannep, Joshua (Natalia) Tagtmeyer, Greta Tagtmeyer, and Thomas Tagtmeyer; great-grandchildren, Aiden White, Eli Fink, and Jessi Fink; and sisters, Siegrid Belden and Peg Larson. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Tagtmeyer on August 3, 1993; brothers, Nathan (Aleda) and Daniel (Bernice) Tagtmeyer; sisters, Nancy (Agee) Overton and Jane (David) Dawkins; and brothers-in-law, Grant Larson, Si Beldon, and Al Baker. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 202 West Rudisill Boulevard, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46807, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46819, with a prayer service beginning at 4:30 pm. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the South Side High School Rhonda Tagtmeyer Scholarship Fund.
