

ROBERT "BOB" GOODMAN, 90, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at Sage Bluff Rehab facility in Fort Wayne. Born in Toledo, Ohio, in 1925, he graduated from de Vilbiss High School in 1945. He attended Toledo University and graduated from the University of Marquette with a degree in electrical engineering. He was proud member of the United States Navy and the reserves for over 17 years, serving in Guam during World War II. Bob began his 29 year career with General Electric in Pittsfield, Mass. in 1947, securing a patent for a new transformer design. He met and married the love of his life, Lillian Martensson in 1948. Bob then worked for Kirkoff Co. in Grand Rapids, Mich. and retired from Square D Corp. in Charlotte, N.C. in 1991, where he was instrumental in designing the transformer for Voice of America. Bob and Lil moved back to Fort Wayne in 1992. Bob enjoyed playing golf, tennis, bowling, chess, reading, and loved the game of Sequence and the Sunday comics. One of his greatest joys in life was serving others. For many years he volunteered through Aging & In-Home Services and Meals on Wheels and was the proud recipient of the Golden Rule award. Bob was a faithful member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where he served as an usher and served on the senior adult council among many other boards. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, son, Steve (Joyce) Goodman; daughters, Judie (Mike) Doyle and Linda (Jerry) Peter; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Lewis and Helen Brewis; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 60 years, Lillian Goodman, in 2008; and his parents, Clarence and Isabelle Goodman. A special thanks to his friends, Tom and Denise Morris, Roy Horther, Ellen Rhoades, Kathy Routen, and the wonderful nurses and aides at Sage Bluff. "Rest in peace, Dad, you and mom will be forever missed and in our hearts. We love you." Service is 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2417 Getz Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. Preferred memorial to donor's choice.
