Roberta Maxine McDirmit

Roberta Maxine “Bertie” McDirmit, 91, passed away February 23, 2023 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born October 4, 1931 in Pennville, IN, the daughter of Clarence and Modjeska Russell. Roberta graduated from Montpelier High School in 1950 and then went to Ravenscroft Beauty School She had various jobs over the years including I & M Power Company, L.S. Ayres, Sears Tele catalog, and Centlivre Village Apartments.

She was a member of St. Joseph Community Church of Fort Wayne. Prior to that she was a former volunteer at Blackhawk Church Super 60’s and former member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed quilting, knitting dish towels for family and friends and teaching young girls how to sew. Roberta was an avid reader and also enjoyed teaching her grandchildren how to cook and bake. She always enjoyed laughing and talking with family and friends

Roberta is survived by her son, Greg (Lisa) McDirmit, daughters, Kathleen Westfall, Phyllis (Ambrose) Tata, all of Fort Wayne, IN; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and her sister Carol Sills of Montpelier, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Carolyn McDirmit in 1974 and her sister, Barbara Laurence.

Funeral service will be 1pm Thursday March 2, 2023, at St. Joseph Community Church 2900 N. Anthony Blvd. Fort Wayne, IN, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will take place from 2-5 PM and 6-8 PM Wednesday March 1, 2023, at the church. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Reyes Syndrome Foundation.
