Ross Sonday, 93, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. He was born on November 22, 1930, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Edward and Flora (Moellering) Sonday. Ross graduated from Southside High School in 1949 and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He returned to Fort Wayne and a job in purchasing at General Electric where he met Nelda DeLong. They married on July 28, 1956 and had three children together: Thomas (Charlotte Hubbard), James (Linda Hubbard) and Susan (Jon Greenbank). Ross was an enthusiastic private pilot, a past president of the Back Forty Flying Club, a MacIntosh enthusiast, a longtime member of Fort Wayne Rotary and a former trustee at Plymouth Congregational Church. He is survived by wife, Nelda (DeLong); children, Jim Sonday and Susan Sonday; grandchildren, Jessica Stetson, Benjamin Sonday, Becca Sonday, Samantha Sonday and Sydney Sonday; four great-grandchildren; sister, Karen Sonday; and brothers-in-law, Tommy DeLong and Loren DeLong. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46809 with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial to follow the service at Prairie Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital, Heart to Heart Hospice, Plymouth Congregational Church or the charity of your choice.
