Ruth D. Guertin

Ruth D Guertin, age 96, of Fort Wayne, Indiana born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022. Ruth was born March 18, 1925. Armand R. "Murph" Guertin, her husband of 54 years, had predeceased her on July 25, 2003. She was also predeceased by her oldest daughter, Ines Marie Neff and her husband Harry M. Neff. Ruth had resided in Indiana for 56 years. The family first moved from their home in Massachusetts to Peru, Indiana, where they resided for 3 years prior to moving to Fort Wayne. They had been members of St Jude Catholic Church since 1969. Ruth was a graduate of the Inter-American University, formally Instituto Politeenico, in San German, Puerto Rico. At the time of her graduation, she had the distinction of being one of a handful of students who had been chosen to specialize in the study and teaching of their own native language. In her teaching career, she taught Spanish as a second language and she also worked as a Spanish professor for College Park, a branch of the University of Maryland. With having a branch in Stephenville, Newfoundland, she taught their Spanish college courses to the military at Ernest Harmon Air Force Base. She had also worked on many occasions as an interpreter and translator. She and her husband had lived and traveled extensively nationally and internationally. She belonged to the Fort Wayne Women's Club for many years as well as to the Newcomers and Encore Clubs.

Ruth is survived by a son, Raymond A Guertin and a daughter, Sandra Ruth Guertin, both of Fort Wayne and 4 grandchildren, Cyrus Rua (Sarah) of Texas, Nicole Marie Lebo (Nick Cox) of Fort Wayne, Melissa Anne Bickel (Eric) of Nappanee and Matthew Steven Neff of Florida. She is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren, Ernie, Andrew, Ian, Alexandria, Eleanor and Lorelei. In addition, she is survived by 4 cousins, Hilda Cruz of Puerto Rico, Hilda Esterrich of Highland Park, IL, Marite Hernandez of Puerto Rico and Author and Professor Peter Castro of California.

A visitation for Ruth will be held Sunday, January 16, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Lakeside Park, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN 46805. A funeral service will occur Monday, January 17, 2022 at 11:00 AM with calling one hour prior at St. Jude Catholic Church, 2130 Pemberton Drive, Fort Wayne, IN 46805. Interment at Catholic Cemetery, 3500 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46805.
