Zoia "Sonja" Machmut, 89, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2017 in Fort Wayne. Born in Kepenskia, Russia, Sonja served her family as a homemaker. She was also employed by Orchard Ridge Country Club for 8 years. Sonja was a former member of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church. Surviving are her sons, David (Deborah) Machmut, Roman (Kathe) Machmut both of Fort Wayne; daughter, Tamara (Vaja) Jhashi of Nyack, NY; 4 grandchildren, Christa Smith, Leslie Kolarz, Abigail Machmut, Tamaz Jhashi; and 1 great-grandchild, Taylor Dehner. Sonja was preceded in death by her husband, Shamil Machmut; parents, Trofem Tarasov and Antonina Shatura; and brother Vasili Tarasov. Graveside service is 3:00 pm, Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Lindenwood Cemetery, 2324 W. Main St. Calling at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave two hours prior to the service from 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Arthritis Foundation.
