Steven DeWayne Welker, age 55 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at home with loved ones at his side. He was born October 9, 1969 to Susan M Welker (nee. Stevens) and Kenneth D Welker.
Steve graduated from Eastbrook High School in 1988. He earned his associate degree from PFW in 2017. As a youth, he was an eagle scout. He was also a volunteer EMT in Van Buren, IN, where he was raised. He attended the United Methodist Church with his parents and friends while growing up.
Steve met the love of his life, Diane Welker (nee. Dennis) when they worked at stores near each other in 1987. Diane worked at her family's grocery store, and Steve worked at the local gas station. After a chance meeting and learning she collected wheat pennies, he began to collect them for her. It would be a few years more of friendship until their fates aligned. Eventually, they began to work at Weaver. They reconnected and had their first date on Sweetest Day, where they fell in love, 1989. On March 10th, 1990, Diane and Steve married.
As an antique car enthusiast, Steve spent his free time working on his 1970 Nova SS, 1965 Mustang, and 1931 Plymouth Coupe. His other hobbies included firearms, fishing, reading fantasy novels, and playing video games. Steve loved sharing his various hobbies with his children. Steve was most proud of being the 1st and "#1 employee" at Allied Payment Network. As a mentor to a multitude of colleagues (who quickly became friends), he was able to share his love/hate relationship with programming and coding.
Steve is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Dy; children, Artemis Welker, Alex Welker, and Erika (Brandon) Cox; mother, Susan; mother-in-law, Donna Dennis; "favorite" children, his dogs Heidi and Izzy; and other relatives and friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Kenny; father-in-law, Gary; paternal grandparents, William and Rosetta (nee. Moon) Welker; maternal grandparents, Myron and Marge (nee. Stanley) Stevens.
