

Known for his sharp mind, generous spirit, and lifelong love of learning, Tom lived a life filled with adventure, creativity, and deep devotion to his family. Tom proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, dedicating several years of honorable service before continuing to a life filled with legacy.
Tom was a man of many interests; each pursued with passion and curiosity. He enjoyed sailing, shooting, playing guitar, photography, and building remote-control airplanes. A private pilot and skilled woodworker, he loved crafting and creating with his hands. He found joy in traveling and taking road trips with his wife and son and was an enthusiastic pond-creation hobbyist. Tom also had a deep fondness for spreadsheets, a reflection of his analytical mind, and considered education his greatest lifelong hobby. In recent years, Tom developed a love for Harley riding, and throughout his life he enjoyed running marathons and listening to doo-wop music. Above all, Tom cherished his family his greatest pride and joy. Tom will be remembered for his warmth, wit, generosity, and the countless ways he enriched the lives of those around him. His memory will continue to live on through the stories, love, and legacy he leaves behind.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Carol Hengy; his son, Mike (Sarah) Hengy; his stepdaughter, Tamera (TJ) Brandt; and his stepsons Edward (Suzie) Keller III and Jerry (Laura) Keller. He is also survived by his siblings Frannie Hengy; Ann (Tim) Kay; Bernadette (Craig) Martin; Phil Hengy; and Eileen (Ralph) Tate, along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas J. Hengy Jr.; his mother, Veronica E. Koch; his sister, Margarette “Peggy” Kaiser; his son, TJ Hengy IV; and his grandchildren, Katelynn Keller and Edward Keller IV.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm on Friday November 28, 2025, at D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN, with visitation two hours prior. Private burial at Riverview Cemetery, Churubusco, IN.
