

Thomas Nick Shopoff, 97, finished his well-lived journey and found peace on Saturday, February 26, 2022, when he joined his beloved wife, Betty, in eternal life. He was the son of Nick and Stella (Christoff) Shopoff of Fort Wayne, In.
In 1943, Thomas graduated from Central High School where he was an outstanding athlete in Track, Football, and Basketball. He was a forward on the 1942-43 State Championship Basketball Team and an All-State halfback on their Football team. He attended Kalamazoo college where he continued his football career. During WWII, Thomas served under General Patton in the US Army 87th Infantry Division in the Rhineland Campaign and Ardennes Battle and was honorably discharged in 1946. On June 1, 1947, he married his high school sweetheart, Betty Hensch, and they were married for over 60 years before her passing in 2008. Thomas managed his father’s business, Indiana Grocery, prior to becoming a Purchasing Agent at Magnavox. In 1989, he retired with 21 years of service. His entire adult life he was a member of the Elks Country Club, continuing to play golf until he was 92 and getting his second hole-in-one at the age of 91.
Thomas was a sweet and loving man and will be remembered for his generosity along with his energizing discussions of politics and the stock market. Surviving are the following family members, who will each cherish his memory: Daughter, Linda (Shopoff) Dandurand; granddaughter, Harmony and husband Chris Duba; and treasured Great-Grandchildren, Katelin and Jaydan. Also surviving is his earthly angel, Joyce, who helped guide him through his final days and passage to his heavenly home. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Betty; and siblings, Peter, Ben, and Sophia.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 7, 2022 at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home,1320 East Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Lindenwood Cemetery.
