William Henry Burton III, 68, of Fort Wayne passed away Thursday, July 2, 2020 in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born on March 5, 1952 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late William H. and Marie (Ruark) Burton. He retired after 30 years of service at General Motors, having been one of the original engineers to join the Fort Wayne Assembly plant in 1985. He then went on to obtain his Ph.D. and worked as an assistant professor at Indiana Wesleyan University. He loved the game of golf, traveling in his motorhome with Joan, reading, spending time with his grandchildren, and sharing his love for the Lord with all. Surviving are his wife, Joan (Fowler) Burton; sons, Brian (Monique) Burton and Shawn (Amy) Burton; and daughters, Kerri (Seth) Davidson and Kasey (Kevin) Drummond. He was Pop-Pop to Caleb, Paige, Abby, Luke, Adam, Madeleine, Ian, Collin, and Dylan. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lois Henning. Friends and family may gather for a celebration of life service at The Chapel Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service. Visitation also from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at The Chapel Monday, July 6, 2020. Memorial contributions may be made to Life Community Church. Arrangements entrusted to D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home. Additional services will follow in Maryland at a later date.
