William P. "Bill" Murray, 86, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 27, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in Peru, Indiana on August 18, 1939, he moved to Fort Wayne at age 3 and lived here the remainder of his life. He was the son of the late Edison and Mary Murray. He was well known for his skill as a carpenter/contractor, remodel and cabinet maker, and while he worked, he taught a large number of young people some of his skills. After graduation from Elmhurst High School, Bill worked with his father for several years before he started Murray Construction where he worked for over 50 years. Bill and his first wife, Barbara, were married in 1959, and had three children together, David, Katherine, and Gregory who preceded him in passing. He married again in 1977, and added to his family, his loving wife, Roxana, and stepchildren, Kelly and Andrew Poinsette. He considered them all his own and loved them deeply. He was Papa Bill to his grandchildren, Kelsie, David Paul, Austin, Kaitlyn, Elizabeth, Dylan, Drew, Rylie, and Madison and proud Papa Bill to his great grandchildren, Noelle, Solea, Maria Skylyn, Melanie, William P., Jeremiah, Lydia, and Samuel. Bill loved playing sports as much as he loved his work. He played basketball, softball, golf, and was on a bowling team for many years. He very much enjoyed teaching young players “how it’s done". Bill was a man who never met a stranger and was generous with his time, knowledge and resources and always willing to lend a helping hand. As we think of Bill, we cherish the memories of his laughter, his kindness, his service and his dedication to those he loved . As we celebrate his life, we take solace in knowing that his was a life well lived, full of purpose, fun, laughter, and an abundance of love. A celebration of life service will be 2:00 pm on Friday, November 14, 2025 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, with a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service and then following the service until 5:00 pm.
