Tony was born on August 28,1949, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Alice Hoffman and George Shimakonis. He grew up alongside his brothers Peter and Julio, moving frequently during his early years.
It was during his sophomore year in high school he moved back to Bridgeport where he met his high school sweetheart, Elaine. They spent 54 years together. Elaine preceded him in death.
After graduating from Stratford High School, Tony proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1967 to 1971. He completed a combat tour in Vietnam with the 1st Marine Division, 7th Engineers, attaining the rank of Corporal.
Following his military service, he pursued higher education in criminal justice, earning an associate degree in Police Science and a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration. Tony devoted decades of his professional life to law enforcement, serving with distinction at the municipal, county, and state levels.
Finally settling in upstate New York, he raised his family there for over thirty years.
After Elaine’s passing, Tony moved to Fort Worth Texas and was blessed to find love again and married Melodi Duff, with whom he spent his remaining years.
Baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of 19, Tony served in many callings throughout his life. While his faith journey had seasons of distance, he ultimately found his way back, finding peace, renewal, and a deep love for the gospel of Jesus Christ.
