Betty Jo Lay Montgomery

Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday October 18, 2017 at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel with Pastor David Kurtz officiating. Visitation: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday October 17, at Laurel Land Funeral Home. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park.

Betty was born September 27, 1929 in Joshua, TX; she was 88 years old. Betty loved her family & friends; she was blessed by the ladies of her Church who made it possible for her to attend Sunday school and Church service since she decide no longer to drive. Someone picked her up, she could ride with someone else to lunch and another friend would bring her home. She enjoyed being with them and listened to the adventures they shared. Betty experienced those trips vicariously because she would then share them with her son. She will be missed by her friends; and her family has lost their matriarch. Betty was a member of St Luke Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and worked at Sears (23 years). She returned to work at age 70 for Foley’s and stayed for a while as an employee after Macy’s (7 years) took- over. Betty was also involved in The Fort Worth Genealogical Society and Ridglea Chapter 999, and Order of the Eastern Star (29 years).

Her family is blessed by the love and care they have received from Betty’s friends from church. They would like to thank Vitas Hospice for all the support and care that she has received.

Betty was preceded in death by son, Tommy (Scoot) G. Montgomery; parents, Albert Preston and Roberta (Honey) Elliot Champion Lay; a dear Aunt Ida Champion, and brother, Bobby E. Lay.

Survivors: son, Jimmy L. Montgomery and wife Cheryl; 6 grandchildren; 9 great- grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
