To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: - - Ecclesiastes 3: 1
A TIME TO BE BORN
Bobbye was the sixth child born on November 8, 1940, to the late Steave and Amanda Powell in Palmer, Texas. The Powell family resided in the historic neighborhood commonly known as “StopSix,” where they worshipped at the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church.
A TIME TO LOVE
On October 29,1963, Bobbye was blessed with the birth of her only child, Pamela Denise Shephard. Later in life, while Pamela was in college, she married Mr. Sam Traylor, Jr., on July 23, 1983.
A TIME FOR EVERY PURPOSE UNDER HEAVEN
Describing everything that defined Bobbye’s purposeful journey across this land would require far more words than we have here. Bobbye accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Pastor Samuel Moses Houston. She was educated in the Fort Worth Independent School District and was a 1958 graduate of Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Prairie View A&M College, now University.
Bobbye was employed by General Dynamics, which was later acquired by Lockheed Martin, where she was a Chief of Material Support Services for 40+years. She was a member of the Greater Fort Worth Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club.
When recalling the many facets of Bobbye’s legacy, her culinary talent stands out foremost. As the family matriarch, she presided over every Sunday dinner, holiday feast, and gathering, turning each meal into a cherished memory. She also delighted in endless hours of playing solitaire and bridge, and was an avid bowler, passions that added further warmth to her remarkable life.
Bobbye joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church under the late Pastor N. L. Robinson, where she served as a Deaconess. Her love for Christ was demonstrated by her active participation with the Bereavement committee, Women’s Bible Study and other N40BC outreach activities.
A TIME TO DIE
On Tuesday afternoon, April 14th, Bobbye answered God’s call. “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” - Matthew 25:23 (NKJV)
Preceding her in death were her older brothers, twin Billy Gene, Milford Charles, Steave Jr., younger brother, Harold “Petty” Powell and only sister Dr. Theresa Ann Powell.
A TIME TO MOURN
Bobbye leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Sam Traylor, Jr., her daughter, Pamela (Michael) Ikner, grandchildren, Christian Michael, Micaela Amanda, and Taylor Powell Ikner; brothers Marvin (Rev. Dr. Anita) Powell, Esq., James (Debra) Powell, sister-in-law Alice Powell, sister-in-love Gloria Towner, bonus sons Mark and Chad Traylor, bonus grandson, Aaron Traylor and a host of nieces, nephews. cousins and friends
