Burl Debs Gilbreath passed to his reward Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at the age of 91. Burl was born the son of Andrew Forgy and Maggie Gilbreath on April 21, 1921, in Wood County. He distinguished himself in the Intelligence Corps of the U.S. Army during World War II, rising to the rank of master sergeant and receiving several medals and a citation for his service. Burl was a master barber from 1946 until his retirement in 1983. He was a dedicated Christian and was a member of Handley Church of Christ. Burl was the second oldest child of nine siblings, six of whom preceded him in death, as did his youngest son, Jerry. Survivors: Brothers, Joe Bob and Roy D. Gilbreath; son, Billy; daughter, Evelyn; son, Leon; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and uncounted nieces and nephews.
