

Charles retired from General Dynamics Corporation in 1991 as Chief of Quality Assurance after 43 years of continued employment. He loved the Lord and enjoyed several activities involving church and Dean Hancock’s bible class, traveling in the USA and Europe, RV camping, most sports, bicycling, reading, gardening, playing the piano, and helping other people.
He was Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Charles was born in Fort Worth, and lived in the area all his life. He is the only son of Portor and Inez Brown, both now deceased. Charles graduated from Northside High School in 1946 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps for a two-year service with Marine Aviation Units and was honorably discharged after his duty was completed. Soon after his discharge he went to work for General Dynamics Corporation (Then Consolidated-Vultee) where he had a very successful career. Charles also attended Arlington State College and the University of Michigan.
Charles was very active in athletics as a young man. He lettered in Baseball, Yell Leader, and Archery in High School. His parents did not own a car, so he rode a bicycle almost everywhere he traveled, mowed neighbors yards, and waxed cars for spending money and paying for piano lessons. He was an avid fastball softball player and manager, league bowler, boxed in golden gloves, a Boy Scott, coached Little League Baseball, lifted weights in Athletic Club Planned Programs, played third base several years with Convair Bombers fast pitch softball team winning several championships around the city, county, and state. He also was on the Rifle Drill Team and a Rifle Marksman in the United States Marines. He was very disciplined and quality minded.
He was a Registered and Certified Professional Engineer in Quality Engineering. He received several Management Awards of Excellence and Cost Savings Reductions totaling more than a million dollars from General Dynamics.
He also made early Production Test Flights on the B-36 Bomber as an Inspector and performed Aircraft In-flight Test Operations of Gun Turrets, Radar Electronic and Camera Systems with the U.S. Air Force Flight Test and Acceptance Crews. He worked in Management Positions on the B-58, F-111 and F-16 Aircraft Programs.
Charles was a 32 Degree Mason and a Shriner. He was 60 year Member of Tarrant Masonic Lodge Chapter and Council, and Charter Member of the Fort Worth Scottish Rite.
He was also a member of the Lockheed Martin (formally General Dynamics) Association for Retirees, a retired Senior Member of the American Society for Quality Control and the United States Air Force Association.
Charles Brown met his wife while they were both teenage members of Azle Avenue Baptist Church. He married Carlyne Barton, daughter of Carl and Opal Barton in their Church in 1948. The wedding was one of the largest ever conducted at this Church. They were blessed with several wedding showers and numerous wedding gifts. They loved the Lord and each other very, very much. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. They were the parents of four beautiful, healthy and loving children. Their youngest son, James Barry Brown and Linda Ann Herrington are deceased.
Charles is a truly born again Christian and Child of God who grew up as a boy in the Azle Avenue Baptist Church where he received salvation at the age of 11 and baptized by the Church Pastor Melvin Livesay. He became a member of the North Richland Hills Baptist Church in 1982 and was active as a Senior Member of Dean Hancock’s Sunday School Bible Class for several years.
Charles is survived by his sons Larry Brown and Garry Lynn Brown, daughter-in-law Georganne Brown, son-in-law Charles Herrington, six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, sisters Doris York and Carole Ann Knox as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins all of which he loved dearly.

A visitation will be held at Shannon Rufe Snow Drive Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with a committal service to follow at 12:30 p.m. at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park.
