Our beloved Charles ‘Chuck’ Ashley Carlisle, 52 years of age, passed away on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023, surrounded by his wife, children, mother, sister, and several family members. Although most knew him as Chuck, he was given the childhood nickname of Boomer at a very young age by his parents. Throughout the years, and throughout the rest of time, he will carry the name of Boomer as a son, brother, grandson, nephew, and uncle.
Boomer was born at the naval air station hospital on Whidbey Island, Washington, on February 26, 1971, to Judy Bennett Martin Morgan and Charles Russell Carlisle. Boomer grew up with his mom and stepfather, Robert Rainey. He spent his childhood in Colorado and Texas, and his teen years in the towns of Goose Creek and Summerville, South Carolina, which he considers to be his hometown area. It was also here that he became the big brother of his sister, Michelle Rainey.
Boomer moved to Texas in 1993 and met the love of his life, Debbie Amerson Carlisle, through a chance meeting at the San Antonio Airport in December 1994. His father’s love for his two daughters was made clear on the first date as he spoke of intention, commitment, and protection towards Lauren Ashley and Cerena Miranda Carlisle. It was realized at that moment that Boomer was like no other – he had a strong and confident presence fueled by a heart full of love, life, loyalty, and pure mushiness. The love story continued bringing into the world a son, Charles Michael Carlisle, adding to Boomer’s fatherly love and fierce protection of his young family. He was proud of his children and loved being a kid right along with them. The home was filled with games, food fights, lightsaber/nerf gun/air soft pellet wars, and anything else he and the children could get into. Later in the story, a bonus son was introduced to us and Valia Bernard Corsi joined the madness of the Carlisle Crew.
Boomer loved hunting, camping, and hiking, but there is no denying his love for playing pool. While in his late teens, he joined a pool league at Tom’s Place in Summerville, SC, and resumed playing pool later in his adult years here in Texas, drawn back in by his son. The last several years were spent playing in the APA, BSA and ACS league families.
For many years, Boomer helped lead Troop 332 of the Boy Scouts of America - Longhorn Council. His love for the outdoors paired with his fatherly love helped ‘raise’ several young men who remained in contact with Boomer even after leaving the troop. He loved leading but at the same time, he stepped aside to allow room for the scouts to test their skills and learn life lessons through trial and error. Boomer joined the scouts in their shenanigans and initiated plenty of life lessons including never to prove oneself by eating spicy foods, especially jalapenos.
Boomer spent his earlier years in vehicle maintenance and took a position within the City of Bedford in 2002 in Fleet Maintenance. During his 20-year career, he was promoted several times where he found his niche leading the Facility Maintenance division. His retirement from the City of Bedford in 2022 led him to accept the position of Facility Manager with the City of Sherman. In both cities, he created a family atmosphere by promoting support and loyalty among and with those he led, as well as among the vendors and contractors with whom he interacted.
Boomer’s quick and unexpected passing will be felt by all who were fortunate enough to have crossed his path, even if just once. He was a strong man, physically and mentally, and constantly gave without wanting anything in return. He was the soft place to land, he was the one with the right words, he was the one who carried the burden, he was the one to make you laugh through the tears, he was the one to call in the middle of the night, he was the one who always said what you needed to hear, not what you wanted to hear. He was the one – he was that man.
Boomer is survived by his loving wife, Debbie; adored children, Lauren Carlisle, Cerena (Michael) Walker, Charles Carlisle, Valia Corsi; and cherished grandson, Bryant Walker. He is also survived by his beloved mom, Judy, and husband, Jim Morgan; sister, Michelle (Dan) Maxell; stepfather, Robert Rainey; and uncle, Gordon (Patsy) Bennet. Boomer will also be missed by the siblings and in-laws on his wife’s side, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of his family who fondly refer to him as Uncle Boomer or Uncle Chuckles.
