

Charles Gilbert Moore, affectionately known as “Charlie PawPaw,” passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, in Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 84. He was born on June 30, 1941, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Marjorie Lucille Moore and Verle Gilbert Moore.
He was raised in Paw Paw, Michigan, where his family owned a 40-acre farm. Charles graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1959 and went on to attend Western Michigan University on a vocal music scholarship. He was a member of the Western Michigan University Choir and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1964. While at Western Michigan, he pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Gamma Beta Chapter in 1961. He later helped charter the Benton Harbor Alumni Chapter in July 1968 and was elected Polemarch in 1970.
Charles dedicated more than 30 years to education as a teacher in Covert, Michigan, retiring in 1996. On July 29, 1978, he married Betty Louise Green, and together they built a loving family and life. In retirement, they moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where he attended Great Commission Baptist Church and remained active in the NAACP Fort Worth Chapter, the 820 Corridor Democratic Action Club, and the Tarrant County Black Democrats, helping register voters and serve his community.
Charles enjoyed fishing, collecting antiques, playing Bid Whist, and dancing. He was known for his warmth, wisdom, and deep love for family and community.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Betty L. Moore; his children, Andre Moore, Devin Moore, Latricia Elliott (Rev. Gordon Elliott), Jasmine Moore-Watkins, and Charles Moore, II; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Dr. Loretta Long and Cynthia Paschal; his niece, Diana Paschal; his nephew, Ronald Douglas Paschal II; his special cousins Phil Hicks, Mary & Pastor Nick Sandefur, his God children Nicholas McCree, Toby Johnson, Cory Moody and Antuane Oliver and a host of extended family, friends, former students, and fraternity brothers. His legacy of service, education, brotherhood, and love will live on in all who knew him.
A Celebration of His Life & Legacy will be held on February 21, 2026, at 10:00 am at the Gregory W. Spencer Funeral Directors, located at 4000 Miller Avenue, Fort Worth, TX, in The Pauline Minor Memorial Chapel.
His final resting place will be at Laurel Land Memorial Park, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, TX, on February 21, 2026.
