David lived in an assisted living facility in Fort Worth for the past 17 years, cared for by his guardian and step-mother, Susan Bennett. Before the accident that knocked David out of the public eye, he led an inspirational, exuberant life of adventure, and passion. Usually working as a journalist, he spent years in Fort Worth, Midland, Israel, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso, Corpus Christi, Santa Fe, and both New York and Mexico Cities, leaving legends and laughter among the lucky co-conspirators pulled by his magnetism into new worlds of music and books and flavor.
The second of three children, David was proceeded in death by his parents, Jon Bennett and Margaret Herren Bennett of Fort Worth, and several very cherished, close family members.
He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Margaret Kathleen (Maggie) Bennett, siblings Jack Bennett and Jane Bennett Adams, three nephews - Tyler, Marshall, & Cole, his step-mother Susan Bennett, two dearly loved aunts, and cousins. He also leaves behind 3 former wives and thousands of charmed friends.
David was a man of tremendous instinct and generosity of spirit. He just had this nose for things that served him so well in life and as a journalist. The stories of his crazy and so often larger than life escapades abound among his family and loved ones. He was always, always, funny as hell. No matter what amazing city David happened to be living in or exploring, he found the most interesting authentic spots to listen to music, to drink, to talk and to experience the essence of the culture.
David lived an incredible, full life while he could and was always surrounded by friends and/or family. His passion for life, his authenticity and exuberance of spirit will live on in our hearts as memories, including all of his extraordinary stories, love and humor. Thank you, Dear David. You’ll be forever missed!
