David grew up in Fort Worth with summers spent on his grandmother’s farm. He attended Fort Worth Technical High School. David had a 25-year career as a Letter Carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1992. He served as Staff Sergeant in the Army National Guard, 1963 to 1969. Moving his family from Fort Worth to a farm in Johnson County, David worked hard to support his family and steward his land.
David’s friends and family remember him as a gentle and kind man, always ready to flash a smile. With his wife Beverly, David took great pride in the home they built for their family and how they guided their family and fostered their Christian faith. David’s church family was the Fort Worth Congregational Methodist Church. David and his family had for many years attended Cleburne Church of the Nazarene.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Cox and Algie Stanphill Cox.
David is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beverly McLain Cox, and their children, Marsha Cox Petersen and Walter Cox, sister Ruth Cox Biddlecome (Homer), nephew Jeff May (Carrie), lifelong friend George Belcher, cousins, great-nephews, and the many generations of loving and welcoming McLain’s, Burnie, Shirley Hayslip, Wylie (Vivian), Arville (Carolyn), and Arlen (Debby).
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, 02/20/26 at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel, 7100 Crowley Rd, Fort Worth, TX. Family visitation will precede the service, Friday, 2/20/26, 12PM to 1:30PM at Laurel Land.
