Donald attended TCU, and received his B.S. in 1969, and his PhD 1972. He had a successful career as a computer programmer for the Tandy Corporation. Donald also served as song leader, Bible class teacher and treasurer for the Highland Church of Christ in Fort Worth, Texas.
Donald was a fan of TCU sports, especially football. He loved going to those sporting events, but he didn’t love the cold or especially the rain. There were several games where Donald would go back to his van and listen to the remainder of the game on the radio, while his son Ryan sat out in the cold. Then, when Ryan would get back to the van after the game ended, Donald would tell Ryan how crazy he was, but ask about the game the whole drive home! He also followed the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys.
He accomplished the title of Silver Life Master in the American contract bridge league, often playing bridge 2-3 times a week either in person or online.
His favorite game of all time was Kenny Roger’s perfect game for the Texas Rangers in 1994. Donald and his son Ryan attended that game, and as it went on and you could tell there was potentially something special happening. Donald wanted Ryan to call his cousin Tim to make sure he was watching. Being superstitious, Ryan didn’t want to at all, but he talked Ryan into it, around the 7th inning. Turns out Tim was also at the game about two sections over from them in centerfield. We watched the 9th inning all together.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Bettie Pigg and his brother Larry Pigg.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Ryan Pigg; grandson Cameron Greener, sister Kathy Byrn and husband Mike, sister Marilyn Matlock and husband Shelby, nieces Julie Schenck, Jennifer Clarkson, Laurie St. Clair and Samantha Holland, nephew Tim Matlock and several great nephews and nieces.
