Doris Nantz Carter, 94, peacefully passed to Heaven surrounded by family on Monday, November 13, 2017. Born full of spunk August 13, 1923, in Dallas, and raised in east Texas, Doris was the fourth of five sisters and seven brothers. With a houseful of siblings, Doris was raised with the gift of story-telling and humor, and an appreciation for hard work. Although tiny, her spirit was big, her laugh quick, and her love deep. When she was 21-years-old, the barely 5-foot Doris met 6’3” A.B. “Jack” Nantz at a dance hall. After the war, the pair were married and settled in Fort Worth, where Jack later formed A.B. Electric Company, now a third-generation family business. Between helping Jack with the business and running a new household, Doris had three children: daughter Sharolyn Kay and twin boys, Michael Alexander and Milton Andrew. After Jack’s death in 1967, Doris fearlessly ran A.B. Electric, finished raising her boys as a single mother and welcomed her first grandchild into the world. In 1971, Doris met, danced with and then married Charles William “Bill” Carter, her devoted husband of 46 years. She loved Bill’s sons, Charles “Wayne” and David Carter, as her own. Doris and Bill enjoyed dancing, particularly the jitterbug, long road trips, and were dedicated members of Southcliff Baptist Church. In the 1970s, Doris’s grandbabies were born by the dozen, and she became quickly known by all as Nanny. She spent countless hours and days loving, caring and playing with she and Bill’s 14 grandchildren, all of whom grew up with a love for iced-tea, card games, Nanny’s home cooking, and a life-long fear of fly-swatters. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Delma and Lemuel Hall, all 11 of her siblings (Ouida Fay, Alice Pauline, Jack Dwayne, Annie Laura, Roy George, Bobby Gene, Reginald, Bettie, Bernard, Donald Lynn and Rayburn), a host of friends, and her first husband, Jack. Her family is grateful to her patient and kind caregivers at Vitas Hospice and Heritage Place Memory Care. SURVIVORS: Husband Charles William Carter; Daughter, Sharolyn Richardson and husband Flip; Sons, Michael Nantz and wife Cheryl, and Andy Nantz; step-sons: Wayne Carter and wife Martha, David Carter and wife Lucy; 14 loving grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous grand- nieces and nephews.
