

Doris Ulmer Smith, 92, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Those who knew her will remember her as being an intelligent, strong, hardworking, organized, and independent woman filled with feistiness, and wit with the desire and purpose to help others.
Doris: one of fourteen children was born in a farm community of Sutton, Nebraska where she received her education and then taught in a one-room school for two years. She became a Texas transplant in 1958 and lived most of her adult life in Fort Worth, Texas.
In Fort Worth, she worked for the “Telephone Company”, City of Fort Worth, and several banks. She retired in 1997 from Tarrant County as a secretary for Tarrant County Commissioners Court. She then spent years volunteering for North Hills Hospital, Summerglen Branch Library, her church: Alliance Methodist, and last but not least mending and sewing for others.
She is survived by her two daughters: Cindy Wayland and Kay Phillips (husband Tim); Three grandchildren: Brittni Johnson, Kimberly Gaudet and Joey Phillips; Two great grandsons: Grayson and Weston Gaudet; one Sister: Louise (May) Hoffman; and many nieces and nephews.
To honor Doris Smith, a 1:00 pm visitation and gathering will precede the 2:00 pm Memorial Service at the Chapel of Chimes with inurement at the Garden of Psalms in Laurel Land Memorial Park on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
She leaves us with this verse from John 14:27:
“Peace, I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.”
