Dorothy Faye Smith Simonds passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026. She was born in 1936 in Mission, TX, to Lloyd Hudson and Nola Faye Smith. She spent her formative years in Breckenridge, TX, where she tried to keep up with her sister, Eleanor (Mickey) and Peter (Robert).
In her early teens, she was a proud member of the Civil Air Patrol where she patrolled from the skies with their leader in a Piper Cub, looking out for lost people, Nazi infiltrators and fires, among other things. She married the love of her life, Jimmy Simonds, after she and her family had moved to Fort Worth. She was 17-years-old when they eloped and lied about her age to get their marriage license.
Dorothy had an alter-ego, Toodlie Mygrove, author of the children’s book “An Unlikely-Hood”. It was her envisioning of all of the “critters” she grew up with in Breckenridge.
Dorothy retired from the Fort Worth Police Department. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an amazing artist, so the next time you see a gorgeous sunset, she just might be behind it!
