Edna D. Nelson was born March 25, 1922 in Fort Worth Texas to the parentage of Ed and Zora Robinson. She was the fourth child of six children born to this union. She had two brothers; Al and Percy, and three sisters; Adell, Idella, and Erma.
She graduated from the Fort Worth Public Schools, and later graduated from the Southern Bible Institute of Dallas Texas. Later she worked in the Insurance business and also served as a Volunteer Chaplain at John Peter Smith Hospital
She was the wife of the late Fredrick Nelson who preceded her in death. Then later on after the death of her sister Idella she raised Idella’s three children; Robert Anthony who was 5 yrs old, Vincent who was 3 yrs old, and Normell who was a little toddler in diapers, and her daughter Alice was 6 yrs old at that time. She and her daughter Alice shared their home and loved and cared for her sister’s children as if they were her own. She raised them in the church and made sure they were properly educated with life skills to face a challenging world ahead of them.
As a member of a strong Christian family, she confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and grew up in Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. A. W. Pryor. During her adult years she moved from the South-Side of Fort Worth to the Stop-Six Community where she and her children joined Providence Baptist Church and served diligently under the pastorates of the Rev. Dallas Hubbard who was the pastor and organizer, Rev. Graham, Rev. Hickman,
Rev. Scott, Rev. Montgomery, and the current pastor Rev. Michael Crayton. She continued to serve faithfully as the Superintendent of the Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and outreach ministry where she knocked on doors, passed out Christian tracks, and drove through out the Stop-Six community picking up children in her station wagon to bring them to church.
Then in her seasoned years she move to Austin, Texas to stay with her grand-daughter Nikki to help take care of her children while she worked. While in Austin she joined St. Johns College Heights Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Reed, and after he passed she served faithfully under the pastorate of Pastor Michael Harvey as one of the Church Mothers, Vacation Bible School teacher, and teacher of the New Members ministry where she was loved and appreciated by everybody. Then a year ago she moved back to Fort Worth, Texas and reunited at Providence Baptist Church where she attended and also supported her daughter’s ministry.
This renowned "Woman of God & Great Missionary" went home to be with the Lord September 18, 2010 at Harris Hospital Heart Tower. Now she has joined her parents Ed and Zora Robinson, her two brothers, Al and Percy; and her two sisters, Adell and Idella in her “Home Over There.”
