Willie stepped up to the batter's box on 10 December 1949. He was the second child of nine born to Joe and Esther Mae Morgan; named after his mother who said the first born name was to be the Dads but the second was to be hers. As a baby he was given the nick-name of "Cookie" by a family member as he reminded them of a delicious chocolate cookie. He would be referred to as Cookie by all who knew and loved him. He had a very deep love for the game of baseball. You could always see Cookie playing in the neighborhood with his friends demonstrating his passion and skills the game required. As a good base hitter, Cookie was at bat and hit the ball of life and started his journey to first base. He attended schools in Fort Worth ISD culminating with him graduating high school from the iconic I. M. Terrell in 1968. Cookie continued to run to second base after high school when he answered the call of duty being drafted for military service in the United States Air Force from 1971-1975. However Cookie knew there was something very important he had to do before boot-camp; he married the love of his life and childhood friend Sandra Marie Long. To this union came their only child, Marvin Bernard Morgan. While in the military for four years, Cookie was stationed in Vietnam, Philippines, Guam and Offutt AFB in Omaha, Nebraska. After his military service, Cookie went on to third base by continuing his education earing his Associates Degree at Tarrant County Community College (TCCC). He then went on to work at Jack Williams Chevrolet car dealership serving as the Personal Assistant to the Williams Family for thirty years. He finished working at the City View Car Wash for fifteen years where he was a Floor Team Leader. Upon his retirement, Cookie enjoyed the simple pleasures of life like going to the coffee shop to read the paper with his son while he broke down the sports section over a good, hot breakfast. He was also a huge TCU Horn frogs fan especially of their football and baseball teams. But what really brought him joy and a since of pride was seeing his grandchildren and supporting them in all their endeavors. On 21 June 2024, Cookie caught the final catch of life and made the final play of his life. He accepted Jesus Christ as his arms to embrace the Most High God whom he was ready to meet as he was being called. So today he has come into home base, passing his bat as he has taken his final eternal rest in paradise and in power. Cookie is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Esther Mae Morgan, older brother Joe Junior Morgan and four sisters, Lillie Francis Ashley, Fannie Mae Morgan, Nancy Lou Morgan and Katie Beatrice Morgan. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved son, Marvin; four grandchildren, India, Aleeyah, Angelique and Roman'; one great granddaughter, Nylah; two sisters, Shelia Faye Benson and Linda LaRue Morgan; one brother Burton Byrant Morgan; sister-in-law Bernice Morgan (Joe); aunt Claria Morgan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family to include his church family.
