Gene Frederick Reed passed away at Community Hospice, August 16, 2025 at age 44, in Burleson, Texas, surrounded by family and friends. He died of acute liver failure, after a diagnosis 3 weeks prior. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Lucie Reed.
Tommy and Lucie Reed welcomed Gene into the world on January 3, 1981, in Fort Worth, Texas.
From his early years, Gene exhibited a bright spark of imagination with a mischievous smile. He lit up a room when he entered, and left laughter echoing behind him. Not just giggles, but could not catch your breath, crying laughter. He loved music, adventure, and dirt. He was most at home playing his guitar, camping in nature, and covering his truck in mud. Gene became a stepfather to his son Devin before welcoming Freddy into his life in 2009. Raising Freddy and Devin was the highlight of his life. He spent many evenings teaching them guitar, enlisting their help working on his trucks, and playing outside.
In Gene’s 30s, he fought a difficult battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma with the help of brilliant doctors at MD Anderson. He was immeasurably grateful for the extra time he was given.
Despite Gene’s struggles, Gene knew the Lord and did his best to follow the word of Jesus. He would want to be remembered for his good deeds, kind heart, and ability to fill a room with laughter. Gene will be deeply missed by his sons Freddy and Devyn, his former wife Katherine Kennington Reed, his father Tommy Reed, his older sister Rosemary Jones, younger brother Travis Reed, his sweet Baby Kitten cat, along with numerous additional family members and friends.
Donations would be appreciated in Gene’s honor to:
